HAMPTON – A local surf shop owner is calling for the town to hire more lifeguards after saving two drowning people, causing him to miss a truly epic set of waves.

Michael Paugh, who owns Zapstix Surf Shop, said he rescued a pair of women stuck in a rip current offshore. The rescue took 40 minutes, during which possibly the most epic set of breakers Sun Valley has ever seen crashed onto the shore, wasted.

“That could have been my Rushmore, man,” said Paugh. “So much curl. I could have even gotten into the green room, and that never happens there.”

“I could have been a hero,” he said.
